March 9, 2014 - 00:00

Portal 9 is a journal of stories and critical writing about urbanism and the city that blends creative writing, photography, and personal essays with academic scholarship, perceptive journalism, and cultural critiques. Published by Solidere Management Services, the Lebanese Company for the Development and Reconstruction of the Beirut Central District, Portal 9 is issued in Beirut and published twice yearly in English and Arabic editions. Each issue focuses on a unique theme. The journal addresses the need for a conscientious debate about architecture, planning, culture and society in urban contexts across the Middle East and the rest of the world.

On display are a select number of photographic essays commissioned by Portal 9 on various cities, magazine inserts as well as literary and theoretical references that informed Portal 9’s practice. A limited quantity of all three Portal 9 issues are available for sale at Makan library.

The exhibition display of Portal 9’s spreads and artworks, on view at Makan’s foyer until the end of March 2014.
