Children and Art

Makan regularly holds and organizes art workshops with the local communities in various locations in Amman as well as other cities and towns. These workshops take various forms and introduce diverse means of art making. They invite children to work with artists; their interaction allows them to meet and get familiar with local artists and their work and to recognize art as a profession in an atmosphere of informal learning and play. Such workshops included visual art, music and theatre workshops for children.

These workshops were conducted by young Jordanian artists for 270 Children, age 6-12 in less fortunate areas in East Amman. The project was funded and supported by the Greater Municipality of Amman.Another such workshops were training animation workshops for trainers. Two specialists from Sweden conducted these workshops which introduced the traditional cut out technique to local artists who aim to become themselves animation trainers. The project was sponsored by SIDA, the Swedish International Development Agency. As a result to this training for example, Makan organized animation workshops conducted by Jordanian artists to children in Queen Rania Center in Jabal Al- Naser, Amman
