Bait Makan

Bait Makan is a residency home in the centre of the city and a walking distance from Makan. It is comprised of a sleeping room, work space, basic kitchen and equipped with heating, hot water and wireless internet. Its location near down town provides easy access to shops for art tools and construction material as well as various craftsmen workshops. As well as the work space at Bait Makan, the artist has access to studio spaces in Makan, a space to meet friends, local and international visitors working in the arts. Jabal Al-Weibdeh is where the local art scene is mostly active with places like Darat alFunun, the National Gallery for Fine Arts and several galleries, artist studios and workshops.

Makan hopes to invite artists independently or through art spaces from any where in the world whose works approach social themes, art works in public spaces of an interactive nature and are specific to the location encouraging the artists’ interaction with the local environment and its art scene. It is also important that they aim to get familiar with the city itself, and/or consider it as a base for travel in the region. Based on prior agreement, the resident may work on research, produce work, invite the public to an exhibition, open studio or talk. Other details such as date, duration and finances depend on prior agreement with the artists.
